This paver rock is engraved with the Appeal to Heaven emblem created for flags to be flown on six ships commissioned by George Washington. The Appeal to Heaven comes from John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government, regarding the universal law of nature. The complete phrase is engraved on the back of the rock. Locke had a great influence on our Founding Fathers and his inspiration can be seen in many of our country’s original documents.
